From Bicycling Wiki
This wiki has been set up to support the cycling community. The concept behind a wiki is everybody can edit everything. If you see something incorrect, fix it. If there's something missing, add it. Feel free to create reasonable placeholders. These will be filled in by others.

[edit] Bike Shops and Services
List your favorite shops and why.
Aaron's Bicycle Repair West Seattle
Dedicated to fixing bikes right. Amazing mechanics. Aaron rocks.
BikeSport in Ballard
Very nice local shop, they'll get you whatever you want and match other people's prices, friendly staff and owners.
Free Range Cycles in Fremont
Nice local shop, tucked a bit out of the way, but when you need something on the Burke Gilman in Fremont they are worth a visit! Full repairs, some used parts, clothing, and Soma bottles! On the far side of the Red Hook Brewery from the trail.
Speedy Reedy in Fremont
Primarily a triathlon shop, but they have some nice roadies as well. The staff is helpful and pleasant, a real no-pressure place.
Some people have had very negative experiences with shop employees here. There seems to be an attitude that if you don't ride an expensive tri-bike you're not a real cyclist. Best to head on down the road to Freerange or Wright Brothers.
David Wilson Industries does frame building and repair. I had a disc brake put on my Bike Friday and have been very happy with the quality of work. David is located north of Boeing Field.

Use MapItPronto to plan a your own cycling route as well as Upload/View GPS Routes. The Route Planner allows you to plot out your own route, calculating distance, and even graphing the elevation of the route for you. Uploading your GPS route allows you to see it on google maps with statistics such as average speed, ascent, descent, max speed. You can then enable graphs including elevation, speed, and heart rate.
MapMyRide.com provides cyclists advanced mapping features including better elevation charts, auto-routing, community features such as 'tell-a-friend', and workout / training logs and calendar functionality. You can also easily find different cycling routes all over the world.
A swell route planning tool build on Google maps.Gmaps Pedometer
Web based tool for calculating percent grade of a hill. Percent Grade Calculator
Online climb site, lots of climbs. [1]
SBTC Cue Sheet/Maps Library. [2]
veloroutes.org is similar to other bicycle mapping sites (google map, elevation data, distance, etc), but has other features like % grade calculations for hills, and time-taken at average speeds. In addition it has live Seattle weather and webcams from the ground. Routes can be output in KML for viewing in Google Earth. See also the seattle-specific section of the site, with pictures from the ground as well.
[edit] Usage
[edit] How do I create a new page?
- First you must create an account and log in. This is to minimize spammers.
- In the navigation box (appears to the left of every page in the default skin), click "Start a new page." That should open Help:Starting a new page (you can also click that link).
- Type the title of the page you want to start, and click the Create article button. ("Page" and "article" are synonymous on MediaWiki wikis such as Bicycling Wiki).
If that seems too easy, you can also start a new page by clicking a "red link" to it. Here is how to start a new page by that method:
- Go to the page you want the new page to be linked from.
- Click on the edit tab to edit the page. (Again, you'll have to log in before you can create or edit any pages.) Add a link to the page you wish to create.
- The way to create a link is to place the new page's title in brackets. [[Page title]]
- Save the page. Your link will show up as a red link which, when clicked, will bring you to an edit page for your new page.
- Edit and save your new page.!
- See also w:Help:Starting a new page, for Wikipedia's guidelines on starting a new page (Bicycling Wiki works similarly from a technical standpoint).
See Help:Contents, Help:Starting a new page, and Help:Editing for more information.
If you're still confused, contact Jim.
